Solid Gold searching for a new home Section: Business

Solid Gold strip club is looking to peel away from its current Aldershot site in search of new digs elsewhere in the city. The politician responsible for the area of Plains Road where Solid Gold currently resides, couldn't be happier.

Ward 1 Councillor Rick Craven called the club's desire to move "great news." He noted that Plains Road is developing from the old highway corridor it used to be years ago into the main street in Aldershot, and a strip club doesn't fit the plan.

Mixed-used retail and residential units are popping up along the corridor, which is helping create a vibrant node of activity for a part of the city full of families, he said. "We have more people living on Plains Road, we have attempted to calm down traffic on Plains Road and we are tying to build and strengthen the retail and shopping on Plains Road," Craven said.

"An adult entertainment facility may be appropriate for a highway but it is not appropriate for a main street, and I think they've (club owners) come to realize that."
